Backups/SnapshotsClarke Computer Company has two complementary methods of backups. Constantly during operation of the machine, data is written to both the main and backup server's disks. This way, if the backup server needs to take over, it has current data. Each night a snapshot of the server is taken and placed on the on the server at /shared/snapshot/nightly/shared/home/LOGINNAME
Constant BackupConstantly during operation of the machine, data is written to both the main and backup server's disks. If the main server goes down(even if it is only being rebooted), the backup server will notice the main server is down and take over until the main server is back up again. This redundancy increases the uptime of your web site and email to virtually 100%.
Daily SnapshotsEach night new and changed files are copied to /shared/snapshot/nightly/shared/home This snapshot is used in two ways. Another use for the snapshot is in case a user accidentally modifies a file and then realizes that they want the original back. By FTPing to ha.clarkecomputer.com and using your normal login and password, you can access last night's snapshot of your files at /shared/snapshot/nightly/shared/home/LOGINNAME and copy the file(s) you wish to your home directory. Note that you must do this before the nightly snapshot is taken and copies the revised file over the original. We recommend that you also keep a copy of your website on your local machine so you can retrieve older versions if needed. |
